BiVo022: My Top 5 lessons distilled from other Leaders

On this episode of the BiVo podcast, I share some of the lessons I have learned from resources made available by older spiritual leaders.

I have learned a lot more than these over the years, but these are the top 5 that came to mind as I prepared for this episode of the podcast. I will share a few more next week.

I got the idea for this series from John Maxwell Podcast. He shared some of the best pieces of advice he received over the years.

From Kenneth E Hagin

  1. Pray a lot in the spirit
  2. Focus on practicing and teaching the word of God
  3. Let love dominate you
  4. All you need to do about finances for your ministry is to receive what God already provided.

BiVo021:Why I Decided To Study Leadership

I have been pastoring now for over 13yrs. Last year I began to realize that I was not as effective as I should be. I have read leadership books from time to time but never really done a consistent study on Leadership. On this episode of the BiVo Podcast, I share how I came to this decision. I am sure you will learn a few things from my mistakes. Enjoy.

BiVo020: 2 Things I will Do Differently If I Were To Start Over

[Episode 20 Yay!!!] If I were to start over as a pastor, I will focus more on two things! 1) Fellowship with the Holy Spirit and 2) Leadership training! There are 3 other things that I will do in addition to these. I recommend that you give much attention to these 5 things I discuss in today’s podcast episode, if you are a BiVo Minister.

  1. Prayer
  2. Bible Study
  3. Fellowship With the Holy Spirit (Practice of God’s Presence)
  4. Outreach
  5. Leadership Training.

BiVo019: How to make disciples as a BiVo Pastor

We do not make disciple to follow us. We make disciples who follow Jesus! We call others, show them who Jesus is to us and help them along as they follow our Lord Jesus Christ. We expect that they, in turn, will share the good news and help others as well. Then we become fellow disciples and encourage one another. No matter how far along you are on the journey, you are a follower of Jesus! You are not Jesus! A true disciple of Jesus will follow his or her pastor ONLY as long as the pastor is following Jesus!

On this episode, I share about our journey as we continue to make our ministry primarily about making disciples of Jesus!

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I amwith you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. ~  Matthew 28: 18-20 NKJV

BiVo018: Lessons from 14 years of marriage to Olu Sobanjo

On the 14th of August 14 years ago (2004) I got married to this beautiful daughter of God – Olu Sobanjo. Lots of good things have happened as you can imagine in 14 years. I am happy to announce that I am grateful to God for giving me such a wonderful wife. I do not take the credit for choosing her. God helped me! Now that I have the benefit of hindsight I choose her again today and every day.  On this episode of the BiVo Podcast, I share just 6 lessons out of many that I have learnt over the years! Enjoy.

Lessons

  • 2 people are better than one
  • There is much more in your spouse than what you can see immediately
  • You need your spouse to be a great minister because ministry starts at home
  • An authentic following of Christ does a better job than teaching and talking
  • Praying for your spouse is the best prayer you can pray for yourself after “Lord have your way in me”.
  • If you continue to aim at being a blessing to your spouse – you will have a successful ministry!

BiVo017: How to measure Success as a BiVocational Pastor

If you fail to plan you are planning to fail – Benjamin Franklin

What does it mean to succeed as a bi-vocational Pastor? How do you know that you are doing well as a BiVo Minister?

  1. When you have a sense that God is pleased with you
  2. When you observe consistent spiritual growth in your biological family
  3. When people are being added to the kingdom and to the local church regularly
  4. When there is regular water baptism and filling with the Holy Spirit in the ministry
  5. When you see an increase in the number of ministers from within your ministry who believe in the vision and are committed to it
  6. When you have more funds to meet the needs of the church or ministry without cajoling the members
  7. You have a clear sense of personal spiritual growth and more visible evidence of God’s supernatural power in the ministry
  8. When you experience consistent numerical growth of the local church
  9. When you have a clear and measurable impact in the city
  10. For the church planter – when the church can run smoothly even when the church planter is not there to run it.

Once we know what success means we can then prayerfully come up with a plan that helps to achieve these!

If the model that you are following or the plan you have, is not helping you achieve the above goals, you may need to go back to the Lord to get clearer instructions!

Final words

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭32:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

BiVo 015: Not Enough Time To Pray! What is the Solution?

Whenever I give myself the excuse that I do not have enough time to pray! I also remind myself that any assignment I am engaged in that makes it impossible to report to God who commissioned the assignment in the first place is a waste of time.

If we are aware of the power of prayer and the joy of communion with the creator we will never be too busy to pray. Our Lord Jesus Christ, paid the price to reconcile us back to our heavenly Father. How on earth can I  even think that I am too busy to connect with HIM?

On this episode of the BiVo Podcast, I discuss the need for prayer and the peculiar challenge of the BiVo Pastor or Minister.

BiVo013:How to reduce counselling time as a BiVocational Pastor

Counselling is good and necessary. However, how many hours should a pastor spend doing this every week? The difficult thing about counseling is that many times, those that are being counseled do not eventually act on the advice they have received. If you spend more time counselling than you spend in prayer and personal Bible Study, it may be a sign that you are doing something wrong.

On this episode of the BiVo Podcast, I share some thoughts on how to plan your ministry so that you don’t have to spend countless hours counselling members. Your counselling sessions can also be prayer and bible study sessions.
